Water in engine

got water in my engine drivng on flooded freeway. Now it makes a knocking noise when I try to drive slowly. Told I need a new engine. What happened?

water does not compress the way air does. So if you get water in the air intake, it is sucked into the engine. When the cylinder tries to compress it, something breaks, like the valves…

Or you bend a connecting rod. That is bad.
