Volvo going to fours

My 2005 Honda Shadow Aero only uses one CV carb for both cylinders too. I think Honda has been doing this on its V-twins for a while.

As to the linked bike, I have a later generation of one of those too (a 2003 CB750 Nighthawk, the last year they made them). Having four carbs on a bike that reliable really doesn’t bother me, but then again, I haven’t had to synch the carbs yet.

That was an in-line 6. It was a pretty powerful motor. Haven’t been lucky enough to ride one, but I did get to watch a guy be an idiot at a rally and throttle the thing out from underneath him.

Oh, yeah. I didn’t look closely at it, and thought it was an inline four. You would think a small-block V6 would be enough for Boss Hoss. It’s just mind-blowing that they use small-block V8s.

That is a Honda CBX 1000 cc six. Produced from 1978 to 1982. It was kind of a sales flop at the time but surviving bikes are sought after collectors items today, sort of like the Edsel.

"sort of like the Edsel"
But without the stigma…

I think a lot of parallels between the Edsel Ford and the Honda CBX can be drawn. The CBX was over the top excess at a time when people were hearing terms like “misery index”, “stagflation”, and nobody had any money. It was introduced during an economy that was so bad that it turned Jimmy Carter into a one term president.

The Edsel was also introduced during a recession economy, it simply was not the car people were looking for.

True, but the Edsel was famous for being ugly. Not true for the CBX. I wouldn’t consider the CBX the ‘Edsel of motorcycles’. And the Edsel wasn’t over the top in anything but bad styling, also not true of the CBX.
