Used car check out

Tom & Ray say always have a mechanic check out a used car before you buy it.

What should I have the mechanic check?

It’s a van conversion, 2003 Roadtrek 190 with only 35,000 miles. That’s a Chevy Express 3500 van with a lot of stuff added.

Just ask for a used car inspection or buyer’s inspection. They will know what to check. A good inspection should take about an hour, and you should expect to pay accordingly.

Better yet ask 3 prospective mechanics what they will check and charge you for the check, then pick the one with the biggest list.

When they get it up in the air they will be able to tell pretty quickly what kind of shape its in. When I bought my car it only took about 20 min for the test drive and visual inspection. Just explain to the mechanic that you’re considering buying the vehicle and you want it checked out.
