And another blanket statement that means nothing .
With cooler weather approaching it is common practice to add 3 psi to the tires, otherwise 6 weeks from now they will have 20 customers each day asking to correct their tire pressures.
There is also the customer that always have very low tires, seems they only have the car service once a year or their husband has defective pressure gauges. Add 5 psi in the interest of safety.
Nope, that is sooo wrongā¦ all things being equal, meaning correct size and air pressureā¦
Heck, there can even be a huge difference between a cheap brand name and the top of the line same brand nameā¦
READ my post a little closerā¦
Good plan, have your customers return every 3 weeks for tire pressure maintenance. How much do you earn doing this? How long do you expect to be in business?
Most people rely on automotive service providers for tire maintenance.
Does your mother inflate her tires every 3 weeks?
There are many people who are incapable of this type of maintenance, it is up to the service technicians to help them. And that doesnāt involve sending them away with minimum air pressure in the tires requiring frequent servicing.
Capri does not call people here names and You are not the one who I would ask for tire advice .
Not to mention the customers with or without appts wondering why the techs keep checking other peoples tires instead of working on their vehiclesā¦
You said
I 100% agree withā¦
Then you saidā¦
I 100% disagree withā¦
And yes you can take a set of Primewell (you pick) tires vs a set of Bridgestone Turanzas and others, and put one set 5 psi low and the other 5 psi over and then visa-versa and that is a 10psi swing and then the correct air pressures and the Turanzas will out preform the Primewells everytimeā¦ I worked 17 years for the largest automotive tire manufacture in the world, I KNOW a few things about tires alsoā¦ I have hands on, track, customer and personal testing and testimoniesā¦
Now that is funnyā¦
!!
You disagree just to disagree.
Iām sticking with what I said:
That my 2010 Honda Accord will perform worse, with new Pirellis set at 27, 30, 33, 36psi cold (typical modern average driver scenario!),
than with new āStarfire Solarusā or āPrinx HiCityā all set to Hondaās 32psi cold exactly.
CORRECT
PRESSURES
MATTER.
Junk (mostly) tiresā¦ I used to sell themā¦
OEM tires on the Scat Pact Wide Bodyās, my buddy said they were junk, also had very poor reviews, then he has ran a few different BS/FSās and yes some were better othersā¦
Iām sticking with experience dealing with thousands of tiresā¦
Never said correct tires donāt matter, but tires WILL/CAN make or break a vehicleā¦ AGAIN, 30+ years experience (17 same company) and REAL LIFE customers telling me about the different tires they hadā¦
Youāre calling Pirelli ājunkā just to refute me!
Then turn around and sell five sets of P7s tomorrow.
Me calling Pirelli mostly junk has nothing to do with you, so donāt flatter yourselfā¦ I was selling Pirellis years ago and I was never impressed with them or the P7ās, I upgraded plenty of BMW drivers with plenty of Driveguardās and Potenzaās and they came back for moreā¦
I do not like Continental tires either but I would sell the Extreme Contact DWS in a heartbeat if we didnāt carry that size, I was VERY impressed with them in everywayā¦
Just because I said I do not like tire company X does not mean that they donāt have one or a few that I am ok with or even like, and I said MOSTY junk, meaning most but not allā¦
I am retired now since Sep 2021ā¦ So kinda hard to go sell 5 sets of anythingā¦ lol, I paid my dues thank you very muchā¦ Bottom line I would sell the customer what they wanted, doesnāt mean I would not inform them of a better tire if neededā¦ But I never pushed anything on anyone and would try to talk a customer out of something they really didnāt needā¦ I would also show the customer what the issue was, never hid anything from
anyoneā¦
I used to hate it when parents would come in and say what is the cheapest tires you have for Jr, itās his/her 1st car, and I would say why would you want to put the worst tire on the newest driver?? My kids always had the best tire we offered on their cars, I just put Turanza Quiettrackās on my 23yo daughters 2017 Corollaā¦
We canāt get people to check their own oil in between oil change services, you think theyāre going to be interested in tire pressures?
Iāve had people complain that the washer fluid needed to be filled between service visits.
We are seriously in deep schitt if thatās the case!
I taught myself in my twenties how to monitor things like tires and fluid dipsticks, and probably changed the donut air filter in my 1981 carburetor Buick more often than even my dad would have - 2x per year.
Consider these quotes from the forum FAQ when you respond in the future:
Itās truly a shame that ONE personās obsessionāwith one topicāis allowed to dominate this forum.
To quote myself:
"As an aside: You wonder why Iām so obsessed with tires, pressures, alignments, etc?
Yesterday my wifeās 2004 Corolla came back from maintenance and some new brakes at the same dealership she bought the car from 19 years ago.
This morning, I checked her tires? 39-40psi all around! Door placard cold spec = 30psi, front and back.
35 I could understand, just covering their butts.
But 40??
No f____ing excuse for such STUPIDITY! Especially if you have āASEā embroidered into your shop shirts. And I am sure that my wifeās car wasnāt the first nor will be the last one sent out of the bay with tires so overinflated.
And if anyone here defends inflating the tires to 45 hot on a car that says 30psi on its door frame, you are just as much an ID__T"
If Iām not looking out for, and pointing out such nonsense, then who will?
The only thing you are accomplishing is annoying people .
Chris, with all due respect, relax a little. Of all the things to argue about and to call people a-holes about, tire pressures in our cars isnāt one of them. We arenāt in deep anything because of washer fluid levels and tire pressures. There are way more important issues that others need help with like their physical and mental health for example. As much as I love cars, Iām not under any illusion they are that important in life.
Unfortunately, not everybody in the world is as perfect as you are, and if everybody in the world did your job as well as Iām sure you do, being the perfectionist with the passion you show on here (what ever your job is in life), then you would not be nearly as important in lifeā¦
Meaning we all have our strong points and weak points, and most people are not mechanically inclined enough to comprehend the different weight oils much less other fluids, that is why people put engine oil in master cylinders, cooking oil in engines, drive on the interstate with 10 psi of air pressure, drive around with neg 2 degrees on one wheel cause the wheel bearing is about to let the wheel fall off, or the squeaking ball joints with the wheel laying in neg 2 degrees and the ball joint about to seperateā¦ Tire pressure is no different, people just donāt understand not matter what the reason isā¦
No different then me and computers, I am lost dealing with themā¦ I also donāt know how to do open heart surgeryā¦
And do you think that anyone from that dealership, mechanics or customers, are reading this forum and are now going to start setting air pressure to the correct specs now??
