Trouble at the McMerge

Isn’t a Mickey Dee’s drive thru discussion automotive enough?

The electrician I mentioned left his handgun in the work truck, before it was stolen

Seems pretty automotive to me

So what the heck is the proper etiquette merging in a drive thru? They don’t teach this in drivers ed. If there was a collision who would be at fault? Who in the heck has the right of way?

I assume you do a zipper merge type deal, but that’s a foreign concept to some people.

I’m with @galant . I don’t use the drivethru. I don’t allow eating in my cars, no drinks other than a bottle of water. IMHO if you’re behind the wheel you should be driving, not eating. That’s not to say I don’t go to McDonalds ever, I usually get a filet-o-fish combo meal once or twice a week. I just go inside and eat.

I go through the drive-thru occasionally

But . . .

I wait until I get home to eat it

BIG difference, versus going through the drive-thru AND eating it in the car

Yeah, I only go through the drive-thru on the way home, after a long evening, and it’s a drive-thru that’s very close to my house, anyways, and literally on the way. So no detours

We have a drive through mcd. Never any problems, and they are fastest, others in town are turtles. Now how about trying to follow a guy in a diesel pickup truck who kept flooring it every 20 seconds or so just to leave a black plume of smoke just to let everybody know how posed off he was to be stuck in traffic

MacDonald’s loves to do this especially if they have a parking lot problem and don’t want a big line of cars waiting to order. The thing is, the only way they know whose order is for what car is to alternate merging. A guy that doesn’t understand that and tries to butt in is going to get the wrong order. So you just need to alternate, and if its backed up, you just wait your turn.

The spine stomp is when they leap up on the table and walk on your
spine ,beings that I have stenosis and a spinal fusion it doesnt work
for me,guess who gets that $1 a minute its not the girls doing the
work ,I had one once who wanted 15% tip ,I didnt realize the reason
for that till ,I had a conversation with one of the older ladies (BTW
,I never got any offers of grand finales either ) So I have to say
those in the service industry are much maligned and underpaid and I am
referring to the poor wage slaves not the little eyecandy smartass
wanks ,who the "combovers " defend(because they are hoping for favors .

Good to see you posting again .come on over to "plan B "forum -Kevin

Well my back hurts from the uncomfortable seats in cars I ride in and that’s actually something that sounds good. I like getting my back popped.

I will try to get back on there. I had all the login info for everything on my laptop that took a dump and passwords for certain sites I just cant remember.

You would think that there would be miscellaneous forums here on cartalk.com seeing as the show is over as far as new content, I would think interest in the show is less of what it was in its heyday, and the more traffic they get to the site would equal more ad revenue and keep the site traffic up.

I’m with you on this one. On the rare occasion I visit a fast food place I just go inside. I have never seen a double drive through although I’m guessing it is similar to the overflow lanes at busy intersections they tried here. They failed because todays sociopaths have no concept of taking turns.

You don’t have to take turns but most normal people do. There are always a few who want to get one car ahead for some odd reason. A couple times I got stuck behind someone that was ordering for the red cross relief fund and acted like it was their first time at McDonalds.

The dual line thing works pretty good. They don’t need to have you arrive at the pay window in order. They have cameras and seem to know who is who. When it gets hectic, they just ask if you had the XXX meal…

What I can’t believe is the gaul of someone telling you to back up and let them ahead. That would actually have the opposite effect on me- hope you enjoy waiting!..I can’t seem to locate the entire amount in my change bin…zzzzz

I’ll go a little off-topic, but it IS about impatient people who force their way in

A few days ago, I left a safe following distance to the car in front of me . . . this was on surface streets, BTW

Some guy swoops in front of me, forcing me to slam on the brakes

I see there’s probably 4 people in the car

At the next stop light, he doesn’t react when the light turns green, because he’s STILL turned around, talking to the people in the back seat

After a few seconds of this nonsense, I lay on the horn, for several seconds

He just about hits his head on the ceiling and takes off

Every once in awhile, it feels good to give someone their due, so to speak

To keep it related to drive-thrus . . . several years ago, a colleague of mine rearended somebody in the drivethru. Normally, it wouldn’t have been a big deal, but he was in a customer’s car :sos:

This same guy, another time, he was in a different customer’s car . . . a bum runs across the street, forcing the guy to slam on the brakes. He loses the grip on his super big gulp, and it spills onto the carpet. All of it :anguished:

The same guy, another time he takes a different customer’s car to lunch . . . a car that he KNOWS is running hot. By the time he comes back, the needle’s in the red, and the engine’s ticking ominously :smiling_imp:

The impatient are not the worst for me. It is the people that really don’t give a r@ts @ss about anyone else. Like the FedEx guy chatting with the girls in the car next to him, both blocking traffic LONG after the light has turned green. They knew it too. So I beep lightly as a hint. They ignore it. So I blast the horn until they move. Can’t chat with my horn blaring, can you? One of the girls actually looks back at me as if I’m infringing on their rights or something…

Or the woman that raced to get ahead of everyone and then at the next light sat there combing her hair after it turned green. We actually missed the light…

Since @TwinTurbo already brought up FedEx, let’s make sure UPS doesn’t feel left out :smirk:

I drive past a UPS hub fairly often

Supposedly UPS driver’s have a very good safety record, overall

But that’s not really what I see

There’s guys flying in and out of there, without regard for who or what may be around them. It’s those large class 4 and 5 vans, not the big semis, BTW :

But still, those vans are plenty big and could inflict some serious injuries :fearful:

Both of our local McDonald’s have the McMerge lanes. I rarely use them because of all the mixed up orders.

You’re a good lady, Carolyn, but I have to side with db on this one. Drive through windows and their problems are clearly automobile related IMHO, every bit as much as driving behaviors at rotaries.

I’m pretty sure Carolyn was reacting to my comment on handgun safety…mea culpa.

I did go off topic, we started talking about personal protection (which is an important part of driving IMHO), and I wrote an essay about my love for the underpaid, underappreciated workers and how much big macs mean to me, and gun safety ( My finger was on the trigger guard BTW).

I still say that we need a spot here to talk about guns, politics and religion. After all its not like anybody would get angry or offended or anything. lol.

Joking aside it would be nice to have a spot to discuss gardening, home repair, and diy projects.

It would only help keep car talk alive.

Its my fault.

I started it with my essay on big macs and pistols, you were just pointing out a possible serious safety issue. I did have my finger on the trigger guard , no safety Btw. The pistol I had doesn’t even have a safety, it has a very heavy long pull trigger, the trigger is the safety on that piece.

Hi, I don’t disagree that drive-ups are car-related. Perhaps I jumped the
gun (so to speak), but if you look above it did veer into non-car
territory. That’s why I asked. I stand by my request, but the discussion
rerouted itself anyway.

It amazed me too. I was the next one up, I already started moving forward before he goosed it, and I couldn’t back up because the car behind me pulled up to place their order.

Looking back I should have paid for his order, maybe that would have made him think a little bit. Maybe he was having a horrible day, maybe his dog just died, who knows, but even though I usually don’t judge people by what they drive (or other things btw) I have found a good portion of the guys driving Bro-dozers usually act very ignorant.

To be fair, when he pulled out on the 4 lane highway and got ignorant, it may not have had anything to do with me, some of those guys drive like that all the time, we see it a lot around here. They must be very angry all of the time.
