Transmission Slips

I have a 2002 Isuzu Rodeo with about 140,000 miles. The transmission slips when going from 2nd to 3rd gear. It there any hope for a repair that doesn’t involve a tranny rebuild? Can anything else be done?

Thanks

When a tranny starts to slip it creates heat which breaks down the trany fluid.

Pull the tranny dip stick out. And if the tranny fluid is black and has a acrid odor, the fluid is burnt and so is the tranny.

Thanks I’ll check, but I don’t think that’s the case because I just had the fluid changed about 3 months ago. But if that does turn out to be the situation, what next any suggestions?
Thanks again!

@way2funky, it’s possible that you don’t need an entire rebuild.
Perhaps you just need individual components replaced.

I believe you have a general motors transmission, and GM has had many technical service bulletins over the years, concerning diagnosis, repairs, updates, etc.

I suggest checking with a shop that’s familiar with your specific transmission (4L30E, possibly), and
knows about its weaknesses.

Thanks!
