Transmission fluid insight please

My friend’s circa 2005 Corolla with conventional automatic had such a sticker. I don’t recall seeing that sticker on her 2018 CVT Corolla though.

“Sealed for life” is not on any vehicle dipstick or owners manual. But many had “Lifetime ATF, no need to change” or words to that effect. Toyota thought their T-4 was good for the life of the transmission, but a lot of angry owners found that to be a short life if it wasn’t changed periodically.

The WS is a synthetic and it appears to be good for the life of the transmission unless the vehicle is used for towing. Then there is a maintenance schedule for it.

Yes, the car does call for WS fluid

No Toyota I’m aware of still called for T-IV in 2011

Several other manufacturers also use synthetic atf and they have a maintenance schedule for it, often irrespective of towing

As far as transmissions go, I think it’s better to try to maximize the life of the transmission . . . not the fluid
