Toyota Truck 85 and earlier

I too agree the Toyota trucks are very reliable…HOWEVER. make sure it didn’t see a lot of time in snow country. Pretty much all the asian vehicles of that era had major rust problems.

Got that covered. I’ve seen the spring shackles rusted right through

Few '85 and older Toyota P/U’s had 5 speeds…The 4WD models, even fewer 5-speeds were made…Flogging the poor little 22r engine to 80MPH speeds regardless of transmission results in a very uncomfortable driving dynamic…

I had five different 4 cylinder Toyota trucks and a v6 Tacoma over the years. They were very reliable…until they aged. At that point, everything is relative. A late 80’s, early 90’s Toyota may still be around when others have given up the ghost. But don’t kid yourself, at 25 years, no vehicle is that reliable unless all the parts have been replaced. It will need it’s own escrow account if you use it very hard unless you do all your own mechanical work yourself. It is well worth saving up enough to buy a newer model.

80mph on ice . . . you’re a lot braver than I am

I wouldn’t even do 80mph on ice in a car
