Toyota Corolla TRANSMISSION ISSUES

I have a 2000 Toyota Corolla with 105,000 miles on it. I am concerned my transmission may be going. It is an automatic transmission. When I shift from park to drive or reverse it is hard. I smell a burning smell from the hood after I park it. There is no loud noice coming from under the hood…should i still be concerned? Can I get a mechanic to look at the fluid and if it is black, how long do i have before it is gone? What are major transmission symptoms…i have others, but want to know when i should be concerned. Thanks!

Go and have your Transmission fluid flushed first.

Take it to a transmission mechanic. Tell him your symptoms & he’ll know what to do. He might try a service (drain, refill & change filter) first. One other symptom could be the car not shifting or accelerating properly. Go to an expert. Keep the car on a regular maintenance schedule. An 8-year old Corolla with only 105k has a lot of life left in it.
