I happen to really LIKE the new Corvette. The weight distribution is near 50 50 now. Why go through the huge expense a design change to mid engine would entail? It would get you nothing.
I think I read something back in the 70’s when GM was thinking about going with a mid engine. Their marketing figured out that they could build a front engine Corvette for about $10k and sell it for $20k, or they could build a mid engine 'vette for $20k and sell it for $20k. They decided to stay with front engine.
I’ve read that whenever GM checks with their current owners about major changes like mid-engine or a high output 6-cylinder, they are told that just wouldn’t be right. Is anyone impressed with the 4-cylinder Jaguars? I’m not. The projected NSX doesn’t set my heart on fire, either.
Personally, I don’t think there’s been any prettier Corvette than the 63 through 67 models. The later generations are far superior as to ride, comfort, and civility because anyone who had driven or ridden in one of the older ones can reasonably compare it to a farm truck but…
To think back in the early 70s I passed on a clean, bright red '63 Split Window for an even thousand dollars…
I realize this whole thread is a purely subjective subject.
But if everybody with a successful design never stretched their design legs with their flagship models, the 'Vette would still resemble the C1, Towncars would still look like electric razors, and Caddys would still have tail fins.
I would suggest that optional jump seats facing rearward so passengers could wave to those they pass…is that illegal ?
You mean like a Subary Brat?
How about a rumble seat instead of a jump seat? Like those old 30s Buicks had.
Didn’t the old Beverly Hillbillies car have a rumble seat?
"…and Caddys would still have tail fins. "
1959 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham! Yow Yow!!! Bring that back with modern suspension and drivetrain and I’m there!
“Didn’t the old Beverly Hillbillies car have a rumble seat?”
Jed’s truck had seats on the flat bed. They only qualify as rumble seats if the truck needed a tuneup.
