Synthetic oil

I agree. We use synthetic motor oil in tractors that don’t have easy heat plug access in the winter. Manufacturer is careful to point out that it is no substitute for frequent oil changes in their tractors, measured in hours not miles. In the summer, it’s back to the cheaper stuff.

Advertising is a powerful tool. We lived in the orient for a number of years. The cosmetics stores there pushed all manner of Western beauty aids, including Oil of Olay. This stuff is great for women without a lot of collagen in their skin who live in a dry environment. Austalian women of British descent, living in the dry Outback, for instance would find it wonderful.

It is rather redundant, however on Asian women who have lots of natural collagen, living in a tropical climate where it rains every day.

Hoever, Asian women forked out big dollars to lather the stuff on their faces!

Synthetics were also highly promoted, although the temperature ranged from a low of 77F to a hing of 95F maximum. I tried to tell many colleagues that unless they were stuck in traffic most of the day, the synthetic did not provide a great deal of benefit.

Please tell us why using Mobil 1 in your 1975 car was a “big mistake”. Was it the wrong car to use it in or the do you consider the oil not “suitable” for that model?
