My car surges when first started and placed into gear, be it forward or backward. If I don’t hold the brakes tightly, it will take off. I thought I had to allow it to warm up first but it made no difference. Any suggestions?
Well you do have to hold the brake or you will move with an automatic transmission. How high are the rpms when you first start it up? Find an empty street and see how fast you go without touching the gas pedal. If you faster than about 10mph then you probably have a problem.
Thanx, I will check the rpms. The surges are quick, almost as if the gas pedal is being stabbed. The surges last approx 1 to 2 seconds
