First, check the battery. A battery can have enough power remaining to allow you to operate the radio and the lights, but not enough to turn the starter motor.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position so that the dash lights come on. Step on the brake pedal and shift the transmission into neutral. Now try starting the engine.
