If you have places to hook it, use at least one tiedown strap over the tire to restrain it.

I am incredulous that an SUV-type vehicle would not include a spare tire, or even a place to store a full-size spare. There are spots I believe I can run ropes through and then through the rim to hold the tire down, I need to get to like a home depot to pick up some heavy duty rope to use.

Google “outlander spare tire carrier”. There are plenty of aftermarket solutions for mounting the spare tire on the rear of the car.

I can’t say for certain, but there is often a way to add tie down anchors in the rear cargo area (since I guess they’re not there already). They’d look something like this (click) and you’d likely have to pull up the carpet to find where you can install them.

The place where I can secure it to isn’t big enough to put a strap through. It will allow for some rope but nothing the size of a strap.

There’s no need to invent a solution. YOur best bet is to just accept that your SUV doesn’t have room for a spare tire and use it as is, just the air pump kit. If you insist on carrying a spare tire (despite what the manufacture intends), and you can find a safe place to hold the tire to, suggest at a minimum to use ratchetted nylon tie-down straps rather than ropes.
