Hi,
I just had the starter motor replaced on my 2002 Camry (approx. 150,000 miles). It was replaced after not being able to start my car (while still having use of power windows) and having the AAA rep tap around to get my car to start again. On my way home from the mechanic after having it replaced, it was running very rough and stalled out. Is there a simple explanation? Could there a simpler explanation than a faulty alternator (spark wires, etc.)?
Thanks for your help,
Brian
Were you able to start it back up?
The air duct from the air filter to the intake/throttle body may have been removed and not properly re-installed.
I was able to start it back up again. It seems run really rough after idling for over a minute or so
No Camry experience, but I replaced the starter motor last winter on my early 90’s Corolla. There’s a lot of other stuff you have to remove to get enough clearance to do the job. I suspect some part or another wasn’t re-connected properly. There’s so many ways for this to happen it is not worth speculating. Return to the shop and ask them to double check all the connections they had to remove. It could be somethng very simple like a vacuum hose left unconnected.
BTW, even though I connected every thing up as before, I still had a problem resulting from the starter motor replacement procedure for my Corolla. I had to remove a heater hose to get some clearance, and water leaked out of the hose in the process, and when I reconnected everything I guess a pocket of air got into the coolant path, which resulted in a weird noise, probably when the water pump didn’t have enough water to pump due to the air pocket. I had to remove the radiator cap and bleed the air out of the coolant to return thngs to normal.
What George said. They either failed to reinstall something or knocked something loose.
When you remove the starter on a Camry you have to remove the ducting and the MAF may be unplugged.
