Splitting Lanes

I am one of you, so trust me. I am not painting a broad brush. I was referring to bikers, not motorcyclists.

It can be done safely.
Its done so every day, many times a day, by many different riders, in many different places.

You need to wrap your head around the thought that it IS being done, and it IS being done SAFELY by the vast majority of riders who choose to do it.

Again your logic is flawed…People drive 30-40 miles over the speed limit all the time…with only 20’ from the car in front of them…Does that make it SAFE?? Based on your logic…it MUST be safe because those people aren’t getting into accidents. That’s the flaw in your logic…It’s IMPOSSIBLE to prove your point that way.

Cars drive within inches of each other every day, and the chances of them coming in contact with each other is exactly the same as the car and motorcycle situation.

Cars that are within inches of each other while driving anything above 20mph…IS DRIVING UNDER UNSAFE CONDITIONS…Just because they may not get into an accident doesn’t mean they it’s NOT unsafe.

Go down to South America sometime…the people there drive NUTS…They make Boston drives look like little old ladies…driving at very high speeds…cutting into traffic…it’s control ciaos. I never meant one American down there who thought they drove sanely. They all thought they were completely nuts…however…their accident rates were just slightly higher then the US…but that doesn’t mean it’s safe. You’re confusing the two.

" I stopped riding because it became too dangerous on the highways."

I hear you. Since my friend died I’ve considered selling my bike.

I’ve lived in the UK for several years and taken their driver exam. One of the questions on the exam is, to the effect, if you are in slow traffic to watch out for motorcyclists “filtering” (their term for lane-splitting) through traffic. Not only is it legal, motorists are required to take care! It makes a lot of sense in a country with a LOT of motorcycles and gasoline approaching $8 gallon (regular there starts at 92 octane. They say the same thing about our gas as they do about our beer!).
