Should we repair our 15 year old cars?

I agree. After age and weather oil leaks are going to happen. If you’re not making any payments on these cars that’s $$ in the bank every month. You’ve got two good makes, an Acura and a Toyota, and they are both built to last 250K at least.

The only time I have gotten rid of a car is when it needed catalytic converter and exhaust system repairs that could potentially cost more than what the car was worth. The last car I replaced needed catalytic converter repairs (the car had 3 - did it need just one or all 3? I didn’t even find out. I knew it needed one for sure and that would be at least $500.) Plus it had a bad, slippy steering rack ($800) and needed rear struts ($500). Plus it burned oil like mad. I had to add a quart every 10 days. And the transmission was starting to get slippy.

I would keep both those cars. If you maintain them, garage them if possible, and fix things when they break, you’ve got many more years of life in those cars.

but you have a garage with tools and a hoist right?

You guys do know in cuba they are still driving cars from the 1950s right?
