Should I buy a catalytic converter or sell my 2004 Prius?

Depends on what your replacement car will be?
Depends on how long you want to keep your current vehicle?

I would ask what others have asked-Has your mileage changed and by how much?

My '99Civ has the CEL on for 2 years. Yes, my mpg is down considerably, but we haven’t figured out the problem-already changed out the 02 sensor. I just can’t see spending more $ on this car - $700 this year-to-date, and its a salvaged car. I got another 30K miles on the tires. I don’t live in a EPA area so CEL is just a nuisance.

@Roostersride

Why did you revive this old thread?!

Respectfully, what does your comment have to do with the catalytic converter?

You might consider an aftermarket converter. The price you are quoting sounds like a dealer price and Toyota converters are VERY expensive.

The OP, PriusFanatic, started this thread on April 3 and he last posted on April 4…That’s almost 2 months ago…What exactly is the point of continuing this thread?

The code, P0420, was generated by the REAR oxygen sensor. If you going to buy some parts, that would be the first part to buy…MUCH cheaper than a converter…

I already made that point

OP’s not reading this anymore

Guys, we’re all talking to a brick wall
