Is it better to take short trips or long trips that at least get the car up to operation temp. for a least a minute or two?
I think you already know the answer to your own question. What is it that you really want to know?
These days, it probably matters less than it did before every vehicle came with electronic fuel injection. The engine doesn’t really care much, as long as you change the oil on schedule and get it up to operating temperature every once in a while. Back in the days when carburetors dumped rich fuel mixture into the engine on start-up, short trips took more of a toll on your engine than they do now.
Short trips, a few minutes or a few miles, are the WORST thing you can do for your vehicle.
Once in a while won’t hurt anything, but if you drive short trips all the time you will shorten the life of your vehicle.
“Short trips, a few minutes or a few miles, are the WORST thing you can do for your vehicle.” I would rate driving it at 60 mph into a bridge abutment as a little worse.
