Senior citizens and new technology

I’ll do the pull through unless I load a large amount of stuff in the trunk. I will also back into a parking spot if I don’t need trunk access or no pull through spots are available. Backing into a parking spot is easy with the backup cameras and other sensors. The car sees the other cars and parking lot lines. Backing into a spot is a breeze. I get an image of my car in the parking lot as if from a drone overhead. It shows this image as soon as it knows I’m back in into a spot and shows my path into the spot. Pretty amazing.

I have said for years, if you can’t figure it out, get a 12yo, they will be able to do it quickly when it comes to newer electronic stuff…

I’ve been backing into parking spots (or pulling through) since I started driving, I can see to back in better than backing out with idiots zooming through parking lots, and it is much safer, unless of course you are going to be loading something in the bed or trunk of your vehicle…
Back up cameras do help, but not required for me… My daughter still uses her mirrors more than her back up camera… lol

This is one of my issues, I prefer to find a pull-through spot and pull all the way through so I do not have to back out. But what really gets my goat are those who think that because you pulled way through, several feet beyond the line (so you have room to load the packages…) they pull way over the line, into your spot, so you now have to load the packages in the back seat rather than in the trunk.

When I was shopping for a new car, one of the features that I really wanted was Rear Crosstraffic Detection. To my great satisfaction, it also has Front Crosstraffic Detection, and it works really well. If I am parked next to a very high/large truck/SUV, it’s really helpful to have both types of traffic detection.

I have several ideas for that car, an aftermarket head unit will allow for a camera and add some other features they would want.

I can back in without cameras, but it is much easier with them. My first experience with backup cameras was on a long business trip to Japan. I had a Vitz (Yaris in USA) with a backup camera. I thought it was fluff until I tried parking at the hotel. Lotsa rooms, small parking lot. The space between rows was narrow. I found that driving around the hotel in the lot then backing into the spots near the end of the lot was much easier than trying to front in then back out the following morning. The camera made it very easy and I’ve happily used them since.

Yeah, I have to admit the back up camera in that 2018 4 door 4x4 truck was nice, used it a lot… But in my daughters Corolla, I just use the mirrors, the camera messes with my head… lol
