This subject recently come up on CarTalk; however, this was posted this morning on Microsoft News under Car Hacks… I wonder if the author has ever touched a Serpentine Belt let alone replaced one?
I am not posting this as a recommendation, only for laughs…
In case you cannot read the script in the photo…
#26: Stock Up on Stockings

Apparently, women’s stockings are a must-have accessory for cars because here’s another use for them. When you aren’t busy covering your windshield wipers with stockings, you can also use them as a temporary fix to a broken fan belt. It won’t last long, but it will at least get you to safety!
If your fan belt stops while you’re driving, pull over immediately and turn off your car. If you can, remove the broken belt and tie the stockings around the engine pulleys, pulling the stockings as much as possible. It’s an imperfect fix but a pretty darn good patch for a short drive.
Good post! I don’t think it is meant to be taken seriously, but the script says “fan belt” while the photo shows a serpentine belt. I’ve heard of it working for a fan belt temporary replacement , but never heard it worked for a serpentine belt. Has anyone here heard of this working (even for a short drive) for a serpentine belt?
Oh, they were completely serious about all these tips… Here is the link…

I do not believe that the author has any idea what a V-Belt or a Serpentine Belt is. It is a ridiculous proposal, it cannot work and I would hope that no one is stashing an old pair of panty hose in their trunk for the day that they might need them…

Likely written by AI.
I have played around a bit with asking AI (ChatGTP) to write a 350 word article on several automotive subjects 4 times now. All 4 times the articles were nicely written and factually wrong.
AI searches the internet for data to be used in the article… There is LOTS of bad information on the internet that finds its way into the article.
