Just installed a remfg’d starter on my 96 suburban C1500,5.7 Lt. 2wd. Still starts hard but doesn’t grind exactly, just shakes upon turning. Did not use any shims since the original did not have them. Any comments?
GM V8s normally have shims. My 88 Caprice had several, and one shop screwed up my flywheel by not putting any in causing poor engament of the pinion gear on the starter. I would advise going to a shop manual before trying to start it again; you may be destroying you flywheel and the starter.
