Rattling Noise

I’ve never been a fan of Midas. I’ve become aware of some of their practices over the years that I disagree with.

Glad you got the rattle resolved. And you should know that it’s good that you did. Generally rattles inside the cat converter mean that the ceramic substrate that the catalyst, a sputter-coated platinum-palladium alloy, is coated onto has broken apart for some reason. Once it begins breaking apart it can plug the cat converter, causing loss of power and other operating problems.

And, lastly, sincere thanks for the followup post.

Now I should have caught that one right away.

I had a rattling like that a year ago on my Dakota. Drove me nuts!!!
Mine was not as loud and constant though.
It would only rattle while at an idle. Finally after about the third inspection under the truck, instead of just trying to shake the exhaust I banged on the resonator with a rubber mallet.

A baffle or something inside the resonator had broken free. I replaced the pipe with resonator and it is quiet again.
