In the spirit of beating this simple inquiry to death, I will point out that a water softener does not remove minerals. It exchanges magnesium and calcium ions for sodium. What you have left is water rich in sodium carbonate, which is equally bad for batteries. So, just top it off with distilled water, which is less than a dollar a gallon.
