Can only find 92 octane in Seattle. My car requires 93. Will 92 do any damage ?
I very much doubt it. What make/model?
Use 92 octane. Your car will detect this octane and will automatically adjust ignition timing to run satisfactorily.
The difference between 92 and 93 is like a whisper in a hurricane.
Octane offered also varies by altitude. But seattle should have 93 as it is sealevel. 92 is acceptable and depending on your car you may be able to use 90-91. If you do not know what pinging is do not try any thing less.
never seen one requiring 93, it’s usually 87 or 91+ octane.
Kudos, though, for understanding that you need the high octane stuff for your car.
Most questions we get are the opposite; “My $50k sports/luxury car calls for 91 octane, do I have to? Can I get by using 87?”
“Your car will detect this octane and will automatically adjust ignition timing to run satisfactorily.”
The car will detect whether the engine has an ignition knock and will adjust the timing accordingly. It will not actually detect the octane rating of the fuel.
