02 WINSTAR HAS A WHINE.PURCHASED IN 04 —HAD THE WHINE THEN—FLUID IS FULL. HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A 96 WINDSTAR. IS THIS THE NATURE OF THE WINDSTAR?

I think it’s the nature of Ford PS pumps in general. I had a 98 Windstar for 8 years and the pump was noisy the entire time. About once a year I would use a turkey baster or siphon to remove as much PS fluid from the reservoir as possible. Then refill with fresh fluid, run the engine for ~10 min to circulate the PS fluid, and repeat the process several times until I had used a 1 or 2 quarts of Ford Type F transmission fluid (this was the specified PS fluid for a 98 Windstar). This would quiet the pump down for a while and it kept the pump working fine for 8 years.
