I have a 2002 Mazda 626. The power steering pump sometimes squeaks for a few seconds after starting the engine. Is failure imminent ? I was planning on selling the car in the spring and would rather not get this replaced. Can the bearings be lubricated?
Probably just the belt or bearing and not the pump. How is the PS fluid level and condition? Any leaks? Any steering problems?
Level and condition are good, no leaks, steering is good. Can’t the bearings fail?
They can, but a replacement pump is the most cost effective fix. I’ll belt the belt before the bearing, however.
