my 1989 chev p/u 350cu/in did a lot of sitting for 2yrs. finishing a 50 mi trip it completely lost oil pressure on guage & check eng.lt. came on. after sitting a while it was good for 10mi’s to get home then same thing. changed oil&filter & drove 5mi’s & oil pressure went from 40 to 0 again. what could be the cause of this? thanks,

First thing is to either check the gauge circuit or put a mechanical gauge on it to see if you are getting good data.
I drove a delivery car (88 Voyager) with many miles on it and the oil pressure sender unit sludged up and would not record any pressure. I drove it many miles after that with no engine problem. They finally parked the thing at 328K miles when the radiator bursted. I would check out the sender switdh first.
