Just curious. In your owners manual, what oil specification does Kia say you need to use?
It should be an API or ACEA spec.

As I usually do, I agree with Docnick, in this case on oil changes depending upon usage. I still believe in the oil testing. For example, in the snow zone, I think you should test for your oil condition in the summer years, and in the winter years. For me, it’s the same year round. A cold snap where I live might get down to 40 something.

And, yes, if you are towing in the Mojave desert, you should at least once, so you will know for your specific car, test the oil under those conditions. And, I do recommend using the oil tests as a microscopic examination of the motor’s condition.
