5k oil changes have worked for me to keep several vehicles well over 300k miles. I’m NOT going to gamble with the 7k or 10k oil changes either. Oil changes are cheap…new or rebuilt engines are expensive.
I change my oil every 5k miles/6 months, even though the gas engine of my PHEV probably hasn’t run for more than ~2k miles during that period. The manufacturer states that 10k miles/12 months is okay, but…
I just did my 6 month oil change, had 936 miles on it since last oil change… lol
I’ve had the truck since Aug 2024 and have yet to trigger the 5K mile maintenance light… lol
If I never drove it I would go 12 months or maybe longer, but since I do drive it a few time a week, but mainly short trips, I guess I will stick with the every 6 month thing… But dang it is hard to drain out brand new looking oil to replace it…
Toyota has another online sale (select dealers) going on and I already bought my oil and filter for the next service… and a few other goodies…
That reminds me, I need to install my C.A.F. …
On the olds that just sat most of the time I would change once a year. One year I had seven miles between changes. 7 quarts. Fuel pump did it in.
@Nevada_545 Here it says to order the extra 2 o-rings. It says: “Also use: (Qty.) (2) 11 42 7 549 573 housing cap o-ring.” Housing cap maybe? Donno what that is.
@Beancounter Excellent sounds like I’m good to go.
I change oil every year. Drove a lot last year, 3000 miles! Ha.
Sweet thanks I feel much better now.
It does have small galleries to deliver oil to the main and connecting rod bearings that can get plugged up with sludge just like the rest of the engine. Specifically mentioning “cleaning the crankshaft” sounds like a way to explain in layman’s terms why a customer “needs” the elixer. Sounds a bit too close to a metaphor for something else ![]()
When I was working and before Covid I was doing that a week. Now being retired it takes me a month to put that many miles on my HL.
