Odometer/Dashboard lights will not turn on

Well I’m almost sure it’s a ground wire now. While I was driving home tonight, I hit a pothole and the dashboard lights came on. If anybody else thinks otherwise please say something, but thanks to all who responded to this post. Much appreciated
