You might also consider running one grade thicker oil if the engine sounds bad or consumes oil at an excessive rate. Either way, you may have done catastrophic damage or it might be something you can limp along for a while until you can buy a new car or engine.
If the car calls for 5W30, you may do better with a 5W40 or so, especially if the bearings and other clearances are damaged. I would definitely check the PCV system as that can cause oil consumption.
