My truck was working just fine until one day it didn’t start. I took the starter and the alternator over to oreilly and tested good 3x battery is good. When I try to turn it on I only here a click from starter the first time I try to turn it on after that i hear nothing. The dash lights and headlights turn on but not my truck help me please
If the starter and starter solenoid are ok along with the battery then the trouble may be with the main lead to the starter. It may have internal corrosion inside the end tied to the battery. I assume that you have already cleaned the battery connections.
Try cleaning your battery terminals. This is a common problem, and they can look pretty clean while still inhibiting current enough to prevent the starter from working. If that doesn’t work, try load testing the battery just to make sure the battery really is good. Also check your main chassis ground, where the negative battery cable attaches to the engine block or frame of the truck, to make sure there’s a solid, clean connection there.
The problem might be with the positive battery cable assembly.
GM uses the side mount type battery terminals. And under the red rubber cover for the positive terminal corrosion can form. This corrosion can cause a voltage/current drop to the starter so you hear the solenoid click, but the corrosion is preventing the voltage/current from reaching the starter for it to operate.
Try removing both battery terminals and peel back the red rubber cover to expose the positive terminals. If you find it heavily corroded under the red cover replace the positive cable assembly.
