And it wouldn’t have broke. The flat screen will
Nonsense. Some of ours are 10+ years old. CRT sets were no more reliable.
It doesn’t matter. Counting for inflation the flat-screen TV’s are about 1/3-1/5 the cost of a CRT.
I enjoy watching Golf on a 50" flat-screen TV. Almost impossible to watch on a 27" or even a 32" CRT TV. Same with Football and especially basketball.
For sports or high-def movies/shows - LED TV’s win every time.
It depends on the context of the word “broke”.
Worn out, or physically dropped or struck.
Orlando was okay in the 70s with only the Magic Kingdom and Sea World. Between nearly exponential growth due to theme parks and the Space Center, and now Port Canaveral is the busiest cruise ship port in the states, all I can say is arg.
This is most of the stations that my 18’ beam antenna pulls in… I pull in few that are not listed here.. This listing includes all the biggies, ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, CW, Ion, Court, Mystery, Movies, Get, DEFY, MeTV, FNX, Grit, Dabl, Charge, And of course the all-important QVC, QVC 2, HSN, HSN 2, and numerous other lesser known marketing stations…
My Tablo DVR (also connected to the antenna) pulls in all of these too along with about 130 more stations… Their station schedule is easy to scroll through and it list programs for the next two weeks… My Tablo can record up to about 100-hours of programs and the App makes it easy to save and view what is recorded
And then I still have my Roku… of which I only use about 20 of the more than 500 stations available…
And then I have all the great internet stations YouTube, Hoopla, Kanopy, Tubi, Pluto, Peacock, and many, many more…
I get all of those from the NY market, with Antennas Direct’s Clearstream 2:
ClearStream-2V-TV-Antenna.jpg (500×500)
Crazy looking thing, but I also have one installed in the Philippines, and it pulls 2 analogs and 2 SD (digital standard def) in from Manila 100 miles away! In addition to a mix of SD and HD digital stations within 10 miles of my current location there.
Yeah, to get that many channels with that toy antenna means you live there in the NYC area… I would not want to live there for all the channels in the world… I grew up in the Adirondacks 200+ miles north of you “down-staters” and that is a very derogatory term where I grew up…
A very adversarial “us vs them” tone you take. You’re a New Yorker, whether you grew up in Armonk or in the Adirondacks.
I’m a Nutmegger, whether I grow up in Stamford or Storrs, CT.
I used to think the way you did regarding aerials: That I needed something with the wingspan of a Piper Cub to have decent TV reception.
While I may prefer narrower, higher profile tires on 15” rims, I have stepped solidly into this century with regards to modern antenna size and form factor.
You are darn tooting it’s adversarial… You Down-staters would come north for the “wilderness experience” and complain about the lack of convenience and speed, citing limited dining/shopping/entertainment options, and the sheer quietness (or perceived boredom).
Then they (you) complain about the less reliable public transport, the slower pace, and sometimes a perceived lack of cultural sophistication, all contrasting sharply with the cities’ constant stimulation (police sirens, traffic noise, etc…).
One of their favorite “jokes” was where is that banjo playing boy… a reference to the banjo playing boy in the movie " Deliverance" and that we were a bunch of knuckle dragging, gap-tooth, inbreds…
We would tell them that if they miss their Banjo Music, they need to go back to Times Square…
And isn’t Amonk in Westchester County? A county that is the most affluent in the whole Northeast, perhaps the whole country, and they let you know it…
Finally, I put up one of your toy antennas and it barely brought in a single TV station… and I do not live in the country.
Here is a video to give you something else to complain about… We would say you are the type of person to look a gift horse in the mouth and complain its hoofs are dirty…
Exactly. Unrealistic for most people.
In Florida we like to remind New Yorkers I-95 also goes north😀
Uhhm, we call that stereotyping. You don’t personally know me from more than what you read in these forums. I accept the area I’m visiting or passing through as it is, not as I think “it should be”.
As for the performance of antennas, of course I would not expect my Clearstream 2 to pick up TV stations in Manhattan from up in the Adirondacks or Catskills. From that distance there’s already 1,000ft of Earth curvature in the way, lol! Even the large traditional form antennas would have trouble at that distance, especially how d a n g fickle ATSC (digital) broadcast is.
To both LoudThunder and you, Purebred:
Before all else, before Floridians, New Yorkers, CT Nutmeggers, upstaters or down staters, we are first and foremost all..
AMERICANS ![]()
Happy New Year to all!
This truck has been posted several times online in South Bend Indiana. After a $20,000 gofundme the owner has a much safer truck
Nobody gave ME $20k towards my vehicle ![]()
Keep driving until they’re afraid it will snap in half. In one video the beds twisted 45° to the right as well as bending in the middle.
He was probably warned for several years that the truck’s frame was unsafe. If an owner wants to keep a truck for a lifetime, they must take better care of it.
For all of you who decry mandatory state safety inspections, this is an example of what happens when there is no requirement… Indiana does not have a general annual or biennial state safety inspection for passenger vehicles.
I would have created an outrageous example with an AI graphic, but the truth is stranger than fiction…![]()
Yes he should haven’t let the truck get this bad. Didn’t say how much but the fund will cover 1yr maintenance on the 2019 and the goal is to cover fuel and insurance. Really seems like a nice guy with some health challenges who’s come to the aid of others.
