New car decision

I do not drive aggressively at all and the car says I have averaged 23.3 mpg (almost all “city” driving). My calculations are lower–21.8 overall. I do use premium as recommended and I rarely carry many things . . . .

But I still drive so little that even if I doubled the mileage the savings would not be that great!

That’s actually about right for that car, and those conditions. It’s EPA rating is about that in the city, isn’t it?

Just try and get out once a week or so on the freeway to thoroughly warm it up, that’ll remove any water and gasoline that have condensed in the oil on short trips.

I do try to get out on the freeway but the freeway here is often a parking lot!

I just spoke with my trusted mechanic and he said I could do the longer interval on oil changes since that is the only way the dealer will honor the offer. I am thinking the recommended service will never be just an oil change and that I got duped . . .if that is the case, I shall be continuing with my trusted mechanic as I would much rather give him my hard-earned money.

Yes, that is the EPA rating . . .and I did get a full size spare tire and that adds quite a bit of weight as standard TSX does not come with any spare at all.

I really like that Acura, too. Car makers are leaving out spare tires to save weight to squeeze out every last little bit of gas mileage. The Jetta and Tiguan are also very nice, though not quite as roomy. If you’re OK with a small crossover like the Tiguan there is also the Acura RDX. It’s a bit bigger, though, and probably more expensive. I’d probably end up with the TSX wagon, too. I like wagons, and so few are available.
