Your post does not match the thread title. As for fuel consumption the first question will be (why do you say it is higher, have driving patterns changed and how are you checking miles per gallon ).
Change the thermostat.
That’s all I can guess, with the given information.
The VTEC system depends on oil flow, viscosity and pressure. If oil changes have been neglected, the system can cease to function.
