Well one more comment. If you google truck bed shelf and suv shelf or similar you will get lots of ideas. The duv are mainly do it yourself even though you said you weren’t up to it. So easy a cave man could do it. Or hire a guy.
Carpenter should be able to fabricate something.

Yes, my car looks pretty much like that. At least I think. I haven’t seen it with the stuff I have stored in back. TBH, that doesn’t look like an Escape, but yeah, that’s the idea.
Scratch that 2nd paragraph. I looked closer at the pic and I see it even says “Escape” on it. I looked closer and I see that it does have the two “notches” that I was looking for (the “notches” being a place where a Cargo Cover would be installed).

I also like the idea of a car stereo shop that does custom woofer boxes, they’d have everything needed for a custom shelf.
