About a year ago i posted about an intermittent problem with my f150. Strangely it only acts up in august each year. Ive been driving it regularly the last few weeks. Its acted fine and i had not given any thought to the electrical problems. Until today. I backed it out of the garage and it messed up again. Then it occurred to me…its august 1st. I took a short drive to warm the engine for an oil change. Afterwards it was all working fine again.
Incase anyone needs to see the post from last year…
Sorry you are having this issue, when did it stop last year??
And yes, I have a little car that I am about ready to burn to the ground… lol (not being driven right now so no insurance on it, so no ins fraud if I did burn it right now… But it might make me feel better…
Not sure where you live…but could it be heat related somehow?
August is the hottest time of year, in my part of the world.
My transmission in my riv would neutral out only in hot weather and at the same stop light more than once.
I didnt burn the car but it was a very good feeling leaving it behind at the dealer knowing where it was going. After 520,000 miles, parting was such sweet pleasure. Stalled at the stop light outside the dealer for th3 last time. Pulled in and parked it and gave them my keys an$ never looked back.
Last year i replaced the ignition module on the advice of an f150 forum. It did not chime when the key was in the ignition with the door open. That fixed the chiming issue. It also seemed to fix the other problem because it never acted up again. Until yesterday. But it still chimes with the door open. Yes August is hot here in Kentucky, but july is too. Just a weird problem
Probably an out-there thought, and comes to me based on my experience with a completely different issue in a completely different vehicle… It’s about humidity rather than heat, in particular. I’m sure that August in Kentucky (as in Central VA) can get downright tropical. That probably applies to July too, but who knows how these things go?
My full story is a little a long, so I won’t tell it, but I had (have?) an issue with a car that only pops up around July & August during periods of high humidity coupled with thunderstorms. It never hung/hangs around long enough for me to try to diagnose it. My half-baked “theory” has been condensation creating some minor grounding problem that clears up as soon as I drive the car a bit allowing the condensation to evaporate. I’m not talking about anything being dripping wet - I’ve always thought just something like a film of moisture. Is it possible that there is some combination of conditions that might allow condensation to be forming?
I presume the issue you are trying to solve is the electronic display fault and the blower fan fault, as described in your prior post, link proved by DMP above. Has your shop verified the 12 volt power inputs to the affected electronic module all test good? That’s where I’d start w/this problem.
As for humidity, yes its tropical here now especially with all the rain we’ve had this year. Normally the truck sits it an insulated garage most of the time. I have a long commute to work so i have a 4 cyl car for that. But since it was getting close to oil change time i was driving it daily for the last 500 miles or so. Ran perfect until i went to warm it up for the oil change. I backed it out and it was good. It idled while i got the ramps out and oil off the shelf. When i got in to take a drive, it was messed up.
The shop that had it the last 2 times never said what they checked. Its always the service writer that relays info. Technicians dont talk to the customer. They did have it mess up while they drove it, but couldnt diagnose anything with enough confidence to replace parts. I feel like they are a good shop, just a strange problem.
Did you drive it up on the ramps before taking the drive? Or were you planning to take a short drive to warm the oil up first, and the display failed during the drive & before you got to drive it up the ramps? I’m wondering if driving it up the ramps was involved with the display failure?
Not on the ramps before the drive. After the oil change i backed it off the ramps and put it back in the garage. Everyone was working fine then. But later,(as in the next day) i remembered i hadnt reset the oil life monitor so i went to do it. Turned on the key and the fan came on full speed and the instrument panel was dark. Theres no common thing that happens ro make it not work. Totally random. You can be driving down the highway and it will act up or just sitting in the garage. I swear the only constant is that it only does it in august.
