Moving CA to FL. Need info

No Scion involved in this, a Kia Soul is involved

I wouldn’t even tow a U-Haul trailer with my Toyota Sienna. The last vehicle I used to pull a U-Haul was a Ford Aerostar. I used it to move my son’s possessions 350 miles. He just took the necessities in his car–a Mercury Sable. He slept on the floor of his apartment in a sleeping bag. He essentially had his clothes and a few cooking utensils and a couple of dishes.
Essentially, one can survive on very little. I recommend you load just the essentials in your Kia Soul, ship the rest. You can survive until the shipment arrives.
Now I know not everyone agrees about what are essentials. When I went away to college, my dad opened the trunk of our old Buick. I loaded in my horn, some books and records, a typewriter. I left out non essentials–towels, sheets, change of socks and underwear, razor etc. My mother had a different idea of essentials. Some books and records were removed from the trunk and replaced with towels, sheets, socks and underwear–things no self respecting beatnik had any use, but I had to substitute these nonessential items to please my mom.

When I moved away to college the only thing I brought w/me was a small backpack containing a few items and my tennis racket
 lol .

OK, sorry. That’s worse.

If you are a student, ship Greyhound. The Student Advantage card gives you 15%off shipping with them. See the card here, https://www.studentadvantage.com/enrollment/partner?partnerPromoCode=SEO09W9001&targetURL=http://www.studentadvantage.com/content/?id=1205

Cheaper still, just take some suitcases of clothing, linens, and toiletries with you–keep these out of sight when staying in hotels. The card is not partnered with any hotel, you may be better off using Priceline, Hotwire; or, the like. You could also try any roadside motel in the evening; except, ones named “Bates.” LOL

Keep your smartphone charged. If you’re an AAA member, there is a smartphone app, in the case that you have car trouble (probably won’t), and the hotel prices on Priceline, usually beats their discount.

I just wanted to thank everyone for the information and input. I am happy to tell you all that I made it from California to Florida in 7 days without incident. No tranny or engine problems. No overheating, nothing. I drove 2 hours and let the car, myself, and my service animals rest 30-60 minutes—then continued on my way. I was on the road 10-12 hours a day like this but we made it! Thanks again everyone!

Good to hear you are safely in Florida, without incidents. Good for you. Best of luck, and enjoy the coconut trees and orange juice
