Isn’t it ( wasn’t it ) that an engine PRODUCES power and a motor USES power to perform a function ? ( vacuum motor, electric motor, )
That’s what I always thought before the terms got blended.

@dagosa, guess I’ll lay claim to the latter definition… 
A late model Prius has an engine and two electric motors. Or 3 motors, one gasoline and two electric.
In my book a motor can refer to gas or electric, but there are no electric engines.
