I learned to use a clutch on an Allis Chalmers HD-15 bulldozer with a 3 foot long steel lever (the clutch) sticking up out of the floor. So by the time I was first allowed to try dad’s '53 Chevy pickup with those cool corner windows four years later at age 15, I well understood the concept of “friction point”. I drove that old truck about 20 miles in our 50 yard long driveway, back and forth, before I got to do the same in the family dorky sedan. So I had a good feel for how a car moved and responded to gas, brake, and steering, before I had to learn to deal with TRAFFIC.
