Missing transman

Now that we have to speculate about automatic transmission issues since Transman is missing, I’ve been wondering about another issue. Was the purpose of the rear pump on the automatic transmission just to allow the vehicle to be push started? Did that rear pump provide more engine braking?
I do remember that GM eliminated that pump on its 1959 Hydramatic transmissions. I was a young driver at the time. I don’t remember noticing any difference between the 1958 Oldsmobile and the 1959 Oldsmobile in engine braking, but at the time I didn’t like the feel of any automatic transmission. I learned on a manual transmission and there was definitely more engine braking slowing down in high gear (direct drive) than the automatic transmissions of the time.

The reason most of you guys are STUPID is that you keep throwing in the “push start” thing. My argument with Transman was that he said that an automatic would never as he called it “reverse drive” a car. Some of you guys say that we would lose the power steering and brakes. I don’t know of any car that dies when you decelerate. I never have to restart my engine after stopping. Why is it recommended that we downshift when going down a steep grade? So the engine helps keep the speed down. I turned off the ignition going down a long hill and never lost anything except the radio, and turned it back on after 35 seconds and the engine was still running. Transman talked like I was an idiot and that it was impossible. Others have agreed that it works with some vehicles, and I don’t mean old ones. Surely you can agree that the statement ok4450 said about putting a breakover bar on the crankshaft and trying to turn the drive wheels was utterly stupid and is a totally different situation. He would have to turn the engine around 500 RPM to turn the drive wheels. I doubt if he can do that. He has demanded that I send him documented evidence of my experience , which I don’t have of course, but he hasn’t come up with documented evidence that it won’t work. If you aren’t stupid, quit saying stupid things. I have to go now, I am going to change the muffler belt and shorten the time between power strokes on said mower. someone on here said that Ford found that it made the four cylinder engine run smoother. As a matter of fact, it seems to work on a V8, less time between power strokes, I mean. Maybe you should try this on some of your four cylinder engines. Let me know how well it works. youall have a great Saturday!

wesw Thanks for offering me a break. I seem to be attacked by many good 'ole boys who don’t know how to shorten the time between power strokes on an engine.

lol, and what s wrong with good ol boys?

come on man. life is too short.

you can t just call everyone stupid and expect no retorts.

you can t expect everyone to be as smart as you

Well, if we were trying to get transman to return, I think we have failed.

They can’t learn anything new

Yeah, I will probably die before I reach 90

Not everyone is stupid, but there are a lot of them on here

you can t expect everyone to be as smart as you
I guess not!

The thing is, if you were paying someone $200 an hour for advice and got stupid answers, you’ve got a right to complain, but when the stupid answers are free, what’s to complain about?

don’t mind the answers so much as I do the insinuations that I don’t know what I just proved. All I wanted to prove was that the power wheels turn the engine while slowing down to a stop. Anyone that drives should know that, but it seems that several disagree.

elly elly elly…

being right is over rated

Being right is overrated, but if EllyEllis was right, he would prove it and be done with it instead of showing his bitterness by bringing up old arguments that happened years (YEARS!!!) ago.

Seriously, EllyEllis, let it go. Find a hobby. Find a cause that needs your special kind of help. Make a friend who doesn’t mind being reminded of a stupid argument he had five or six years ago and have a beer, or have a coffee, or go bowling. Do something other than stew over a stupid meaningless argument you had with a faceless guy on the internet years (YEARS!!!) ago. It’s not healthy.

Dang kids kicked over my “keep off the grass” sign. I’ve gotta go put it back up again. I’m thinking about a fence.
