Missing transman

keith Senior Grease Monkey

11:12AM I never did say that the engine would start if it wasn’t already spinning. Other guys keep throwing in the “push start thing”. I only talked about apples, you guys keep throwing in the oranges!

Shadowfax, I know it isn’t nice to call stupid people stupid, but when ok4450 compared a car running downhill to turning the engine with a breakover bar, I couldn’t help myself. That’s even going at it from the wrong end!!

I couldn't help myself

Try.

“Shadowfax, I know it isn’t nice to call stupid people stupid, but …”

In other words, you know it isn’t nice to call anyone stupid, but you really mean it, so it’s okay. Is that how you’re playing this?

In response, I made these just for you.

What isn’t nice is assuming people are “stupid” to use the term, when they are really just different or “hear” or read things differently. When some one doesn’t understand me, it would not be right of me to infer they were “stupid” when in reality, it was just a “failure to communicate” correctly on my part. This happens a lot here because, it happens a lot everywhere ! Being deaf, dumb and blind which I am fast becoming as I age, doesn’t make me “stupid”. … I hope not any way.

Maybe @transman just tired of these discussions ?

so…

what we have here,. is a failure to communicate.

who can eat the most boiled eggs? that s what I want to know!

any one get the car connection? its there…

No these people aren’t just different they are too stupid to communicate. I had a guy on here tell me once that Ford had found a way to make a four cylinder engine run smoother. Are you ready for this? They shortened the time between firing. Wow, why didn’t I think of that. Another guy said that a V6 engine was so much heavier than a four cylinder that it negated the extra power. Wow might as well just use a Briggs & Stratton engine then. Another said that an Automatic transmission jerked him around too much, he preferred a manual. Heck I can feel the first change a little, I can tell the next change by the sound of the engine and after that cannot tell. Another guy said that if you drive an automatic with both feet, using the left foot for the brake, you might hit the accelerator accidently. How the heck would you get your left foot way over there? I have had several cars with the brake petal large enough to use either foot. Oh, another said that a four cylinder engine would heat up faster than a V6 because of the more stuff the 6 had to heat up. I guess he forgot that there were 2 more cylinders heating it up, about another liter. One guy told me that a V6 had one cylinder that fired 120 degrees after TDC, that’s top dead center for you challenged folks. He was right tho, the second cylinder does fire 120 degrees after the TDC mark. That mark is for the # one cylinder. Heck another fires 240 degrees after TDC. I could go on all night, but I do have other things to do. I need to change the muffler belt on my Lawn Mower and I plan to shorten the time between power strokes on said mower. So I probably won’t get to read your stupid remarks tonight.

You mean cutting off the parking meters to get thrown in the clink to begin with? I always thought that was really a dumb thing to do. Not calling Cool Hand Luke stupid or anything, but its not something I would have done.

Made for a great movie though.

any one get the car connection? its there...

“I don’t care if it rains or freezes, as long as I got my plastic Jesus, ridin’ on the dashboard of my car”

I think.

well, there are more car connections than I realized, but no you haven t hit on the one I had in mind yet.

elly, hush before they take your keys away.

I so love it when EllyEllis relives every disagreement and misunderstanding we’ve ever had.

It’s Elly’s world, and we stupid folk just live in it. O_o

The thing is, if you were paying someone $200 an hour for advice and got stupid answers, you’ve got a right to complain, but when the stupid answers are free, what’s to complain about?

Shirley we digress, the original question was can auto tranny be pull push istarted ar 25 mph, maybe 35mph. Now in the olden days I have heard it was possible, but this turning into a’ hissy fit is unbecomming to all the great people here, so on topic can an older version of auto trans start a car if a certain speed is attained, welll yes I heard it could be done, but never witnessed it myself

The original question was if a 2002 Kia Sedona could be switched off when the timing belt breaks quick enough to save the engine from damage. Well of course not. But this turned into whether or not the engine is driven by the transmission on deceleration.

The original question was: where is transman.

I doubt I will need to push start my auto, but I could use some good transmission troubleshooting.

OK, I have a 52-59 Motors book that I was looking at in relation to the 50 Caddy. It has push start instructions on the back cover. Most of the cars of that vintage can be push started except the 59 Buick and the hydramatic because they do not have a rear pump. So you start off in neutral and at 20-30 mph shift to drive and the engine will turn over. Can’t do it with cars without a rear pump. I know for a fact that our 61 Merc could not be push started but have no idea when it ended. Its not something you can do now though.

Guys, the important thing to remember is that whenever we disagree with EllyEllis, it’s because we’re stoopid. If you prefer the simplicity of an I-4 over a V-6 or a V-8, you’re stoopid like me. The same goes for manual transmissions. Elly likes automatics, so if you like to shift gears manually, you’re stoopid like me.

Let’s face facts, guys. We’ll never be as smart, successful, or as refined as EllyEllis, no matter how hard we try. He is just in a level of society we can only aspire to. It’s right there for all to see in his classy retorts to our low brow mumblings.

lets not kick the man when he is down. we should have some respect for his age and experience, and make some allowances.

Everyone here seems to be “Off Topic”. The Thread was “Missing transman”.

Look at this, it turned into an argument about weather he was right or wrong about something he said.
He’d read all this and figure it’s more fun to change a diaper.

Give it a rest!!!
