Map sensor for 2001 toyota camry

Hello Cartalk,

I like the show very much.

I had my toyota camry 2001 oil change done at Pep boys on 02/26/2009. They forgot to keep the cap on the engine. There was oil smell and change in sound, but i thought it was normal after oil change. I was going on my way to dallas and suddenly car slowed and stopped. I pulled over and noticed that there was no cap on the engine under the hood. I went to autozone and filled the oil and replaced the cap. Then I went back to pep boys and asked them about it. Then they told me that it happens sometimes…! and they cleaned the oil and told me that MAP sensor should be replaced as it was faulty. They refuned the money for oil change. They said they cant pay for MAP sensor.

MY QUESTIONS ARE : IS THERE ANY WAY THAT THE SPILLED ENGINE OIL MIGHT HAVE DAMAGED MAP SENSOR…? AND IS THERE ANY PERMANENT DAMAGE TO THE CAR THAT I SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT BECAUSE OF THIS?

How much oil was needed to fill the car up to the full line on the dipstick? That is the amount of oil that was ejected from the engine out the oil cap. Oil certainly is not going to do the MAP any good.

I think you have a law suit against PEP Boys. You need to have the car examined carefully for permanent damage to the motor. I think they owe you much more than a cleanup and redo of the oil change. They may owe you a brand new motor.

When car slowed down it was because it ran without oil and there was damage done and was because of pep boys.
You are looking at burning more oil, lower compression, dirtier pcv valuve, throttle body and converter and shorter engine life because of there mistake.
Write everything down and tell them you need a new engine, you may need a laywer but start by going up the ladder, do not take no for an answer!
