Malibu 2000 Theft Deterrent System/Ignition Disable System

Have just bought a second hand Chevy Malibu, 2000 model. I seem to be having a problem with the ignition system. Sometimes a warning light that says “Theft System” goes on & the car does not start. Have to wait for 10-15 minutes for it to start again. It seems to happen randomnly. Please let me know how I can fix this problem. Thanks.

I have seen everything from ignition switches, clusters,BCM,programing, wiring.
I could not fix the system without a Tech2 and some parts to stub in.
Maybe someone has come up with some DIY fixes for the system, but I need the Dealer environment.
My first shot would be to see if you could communicate with the BCM with the Tech2 and re-program.There is a security system field in the Tech2
I have done a number of ignition switches with the Malibu, alot of times the key wont turn.
See if you can get hold of a FSM with a troubleshooting flow chart, and theory of operation.

We have been discussing similar problems involving the cars listed above. The problem involves the car not even “cranking.” You turn the key and “Nothing.” See if the symptoms are like yours and read information I have accumulated. (It now sounds like the 99 Malibu may have different symptoms and problems than the others.)

Oldschool suggested finding a shop with Tech2 diagnostis and someone who knows how to use it. I was told that may help, also. I think most dealers have it. Some cars with these symtoms get to the dealer and cannot be properly diagnosed.

Have you got a few minutes? Would you like to read and see what you think?
