Lower ball barrings

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer sport with approx. 63,000 miles. Have had no problems with this car so far, i think its great.I just got an oil change and they mentioned that my lower ball barrings need to be replaced. What are they referring to and is it really necessary to pay $300, as i drive the car to work and run a couple of errands once a week and sometimes once a month take a trip out of town.

Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my question.

Is it possible they said the lower ball joints need to be replaced?

I agree that it was likely that lower ball joints were mentioned. I would suggest getting a second opinion from a shop that specializes in front-end work (NOT a chain operation!) in order to verify the condition of those ball joints.

And, in case you were not aware of it, bad ball joints are a safety issue, so I would recommend getting them checked.

yes lower ball joints is right.

Thank you for your response. I will get a second opinion.
