I guess we will never know if the OP made it in one 18 hour drive as he has not told us since he asked 2 years ago. Even with a car in ( gud ) condition.

OTOH, you have to go through the airport with lots of people you donāt know, ride on a plane with lots of people you donāt know, and then walk through another airport with lots of people you donāt know. This is considered high risk behavior today. Your response would certainly be reasonable to the OP four years ago.
