Leaving engine running while filling up with gas

On the way to a family event, my wife and sister stopped into a shoe store today. I stayed in the car. After 40 years you have some leaway and they don’t want you along anymore than you want to be there.

@Bing My wife likes me along when buying dresses. She values my opinion as to how they look on her. I don’t accompany her on shoe buying trips, except for hiking boots, where proper fit and comfort , as well as cost, is extremely important.

Other things we buy together is furniture, appliances, and landscaping items.

The question isn’t about safety, legality, good for the car/bad for the car, convenience, comfort (hot/cold) or the like. The question is why does he do it, and the answer is “to be cool.” Simple as that. He thinks he’s cool by leaving the engine running. Does he also wear sunglasses all the time (even indoors) and wear tank-tops? Does he wear a baseball cap in a stylish way?

So he’s trying to be cool – got it. The question then becomes, are you okay with that? Is he cool? Do you want him to be? Does leaving the engine running make him more cool? Do you think his disproportionate affection for his car is okay? Do you care?

Leaving the engine running at the gas pump in itself wouldn’t bother me. The attitude towards silly rules and laws, illegal tint, and the speeding ticket collection are another ball game. I’m as disrespectful of silly rules as anyone, but there is a point where a man needs to grow up, and this guy sounds like an arrogant, self-centered, immature driver. 29 is a bit too old for that stuff.

After mom had her stroke, she would often wait in the truck while dad would tend to business.
Instead of leaving it running or ‘‘key on’’ for her to work windows to stay cool …I hot-wired the window circuit to be always on like the locks are.
Thence, she could always facilitate her own comfort from the passenger seat without the truck running and the risks that go with that.

ken green, I did the same thing to my '96 Dodge van, while I had it, but I don’t think I want to mess with it on my newer van.

To be honest for those of you saying he should shut the car off no car gets wear or damage from shutting the engine off please do not come here trying to answer questions about something you know nothing about the rx8 has a ROTARY engine not a regular piston engine these cars are high maintenance you have to take care of them they will take care of you if not they will blow up in your face in this case flood and you’ll probably need a rebuild that costs 2000+ $ to rebuild

Thanks for reviving an old thread and you will be taken more seriously if you use sentence structure and punctuation .

I realized that after I posted and tried to delete it.

Click on the 3 dots ( forgot the real name ) next to reply and you will see a trash can symbol. click on that and you can delete your thread.

There’s nothing wrong with replying to an old thread. Other discussions get rehashed all the time.

Huh, so that’s what that is for? Never noticed it before.

Those dots are called Ellipsis and they let a person flag also.
