Just a little frustrated

Is that supposed to be an airline captain behind the wheel, along with 2 of the stewardesses?

Yep, looks like they could fit 4 in that front seat! Amazing how small the folks are in some ad artwork.

Yeah, they’ve been doing that since the dawn of auto advertising. This is the oldest one that I can find, but that practice has actually been going on since the '20s.

I’ve sometimes wondered what elves drive.

OK, it did it again overnight, I had no idea other than when I open my laptop and it was on the lock screen and I had to enter my pin to “wake it up”, I never have to do that unless it shuts down and reboots after some kind of update or whatever…

I took screen shots and or pictures of the steps on how to change it back to my way, I will post the screen shots of the Yahoo thing and then how it should be…

After update with Yahoo…

After typing google in the top search thingy, to have it my way, but will not default to this until I go through the steps below…

And in order are the steps I have to take to change the default settings back to Google… I tried to put the pointer on the next thing to click on…

Here’s the problem. It’s NOT windows that’s defaulting back to Yahoo. It’s the Yahoo update that’s making the default browser. Nothing to do with Microsoft.

Yep, sounds like you have the default browser set to Yahoo. Google ‘how to change default browser’.
Here it is:

  1. Open the Start Menu and select Settings.

  2. Choose Apps, then select Default apps from the sidebar.

  3. Select your preferred browser from the list.

  4. Click on “Set default” button

Although both the wife and sons are less than a year old, mine is from 052 (according to the S/N), so I think that means last week of 2020 (?), so 4 1/2 years old, and it NEVER did this before the last few months give or take… I didn’t even know Yahoo was on my laptop… lol

Remove Yahoo.

Uninstall or remove apps and programs in Windows - Microsoft Support

So All 3 of us accidently went in and changed our settings at the about the same time without knowing it??
Something other than the user is/has changed something…
I don’t go into setting hardly ever unless something stupid happens like this, and no one touches the other ones laptop… Heck, I know more about brain surgery than I do about software for computers, and I know nothing about brain surgery… lol

BTW: the way I changed mine, son had to show me how btw, does not work for my wife’s laptop…

Do as Mike says, uninstall Yahoo.

Have you scanned all three for malicious software?

I don’t see Yahoo App, and the wife said it is not on her laptop either…

Did a quick scan and at showed 0 issues (forgot the wording)
I’ll do a full scan later…

Sounds like you might have a virus/malware.

Try this to get rid of it.

If you aren’t already - I highly suggest you get a virus protection. There are decent free ones. Microsoft defender works OK.

That is what I have and just used for the quick scan… I will check the link later, about to leave to take wifey in for a biopsy…

BTW Thank you Mile and Texases and anyone else that has helped with this… Give me a transmission or engine or whatever to build over this crap any day of the week… lol

I love working on cars (most of the time). I helped put myself through college as a mechanic. Now it’s just preventative maintenance or brakes/spark-plugs or the occasional unexpected repair (which luckily are far and few between). I also loved computers and writing/designing software. My career path took me into the computer industry. There wasn’t much if any cross platform work back in the 70’s. I’d LOVE to be starting my career 15-20 years ago in software. There’s so much opportunity for a software engineer who loves cars.

A good anti-virus program will either block an infection, or at least it will give you a warning that you’re about to download something harmful. Microsoft Defender is… okay… but I strongly suggest that you add an additional layer of protection.

I really like Bitdefender, but there are others that work in tandem with Microsoft Defender in order to protect your computer.

Haha, if I had started my career 15-20 years ago, I’d been screwed… I cut my teeth on OBD1, TBI, MPFI and 4 speed automatics…
Later today I have to go put the dryer back together, nuts and bolt I get, software and most things computers not so much…
Funny this is, the POS-OS (point of sale) (it was always changing and being updated) from the last 17 years I trained from new employees to seasoned store managers on how to use it as well as some of the hidden features… But I couldn’t do anything in the email side of it…
