Judder&Hesitation Civic 8th gen

Hello everyone, Civic 8th gen Sedan 1.8 6MT (European), at 80k miles i have a problem since I bought it 2-3 years ago. When you accelerate from low speed or from standstill position on low gears 1 and 2, the car stalls and (heavily) judders for 2 secs when you leave the clutch pedal then continues normal. It happens on both gears 1 and 2. This generally happens when the car is still cold (but weather hot/cold doesnt matter) and when you drive uphill. It does not feel like clutch dragging but rather mechanical however I am not sure. Last summer I cleaned the throttle and EGR, also tried with EGR unplugged. This happens only sometimes, this is one of the reasons that I cannot relate it to clutch dragging. Idle relearn also has been done. The results were the same. I have seen some topics on some forums but could not see that anyone really found out what it could be. Has anyone faced similar issue?

I’ve seen cases where a vibration/judder occurred in low gears when a throw-out-bearing was worn.

but wouldnt this happen all the time in that case? i have this issue but does not happen each and every time

When a part wears out, how it will operate can become unpredictable..

got it thank you. its at 80k miles i wouldnt expect but dont know how previous owners drove it.

Sounds like clutch chatter, possible from a glazed over clutch disc having uneven wear, worse before getting heat in the clutch, and or hot spots in the pressure plate and or flywheel…

You maybe slipping the clutch to much on take off trying to be smooth or slow taken off from stops.. Some people like to rest their foot on the clutch pedal while upshifting causing a little bit of slip…

See what happens if you take off a little more aggressively like trying to beat everyone to the next red light…

Part II

Either way, if it is a throw-out bearing, or any other part of the clutch, the transaxle will have to come out for repairs and at that point you just buy/install a clutch kit that comes with all the above…

Thanks everyone.

It is possible that its the bearing but its really intermittent and only happens while starting uphill, but also while changing to two. I am sure i m not holding my foot on the pedal i ve been driving stickshift for 30 years.

Apart from that in normal conditions all gears change without problems and car accelerates fine.

I think if it doesnt break until then, during next service, i ll change all clutch kit.

Doesn’t mean the driver prior to you for those 12-20 years didn’t… lol

Like I said, try letting off the clutch when taking off more aggressively, and when 1-2 upshifting to see if the chatter changes or goes away…

I hope you post pictures of both sides of the clutch disc and the pressure plate and flywheel when you put the clutch kit in it… You can also feel the throw-out bearing to check if bad or not, but replace all no matter what while in their…
